Bradford postcodes make up three of the top 20 hotspots in the country for claims on household insurance following burglaries and thefts, a survey showed today.

MoneySupermarket.com analysed more than three million home insurance quotes on the site within the last 12 months and came up with the 20 postcode districts most likely to have made claims.

BD10, which includes areas such as Idle, Thackley and Apperley Bridge, ranked at number two, while BD18, incorporating Saltaire, Shipley, Windhill and parts of Wrose, was rated seventh and BD2, including Eccleshill, Fagley and parts of Wrose again, 18th.

Bradford Council’s deputy leader, Councillor Imran Hussain, said burglary was an intrusive, traumatic crime.

“The Community Safety Partnership and the police have been taking concerted action to reduce it,” he said.“Over the last two years burglary in the district is down by around a quarter, which means some 1,000 fewer victims.”

Shipley Councillor Martin Love (Green) said: “It does seem quite extreme. I would really like to see these exact figures because this comes as something as a surprise that we are so high up.”

Councillor Vanda Greenwood, (Lab, Windhill and Wrose) said: “I am surprised that Wrose is included because I did know that burglaries are relatively low in Wrose and have been reduced rather than increasing.”
