Murder squad detectives were last night investigating the “unexplained death” of a 33-year-old man at a house in Bradford.

Police cordoned off a row of back-to-back properties on part of Wilson Road, Wyke, over the weekend after the grim discovery was made on Saturday afternoon.

Flowers were laid by the side of the police cordon yesterday to offer tributes to a man named as “Robert”, while residents in the area yesterday spoke of their shock at the news of the death.

One resident, who did not want to be identified, said she had known him for most of his life.

She said: “I have watched Robert grow up since he was three years old. I’m very upset about what has happened.”

Residents said forensic officers had been at the scene during Saturday night, while two police officers stood guard at the cordon throughout yesterday afternoon.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the investigation was being led by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET). He said: “West Yorkshire Police are investigating a report of an unexplained death of a 33-year-old man at an address in Wilson Road, Wyke.”

Another nearby resident, who did not want to be named, said she had been left shocked by the death.

“I just think it’s sad, it’s shocking and awful. You don’t expect it, not a 33-year-old,” she said.

A card, left on one of four sets of flowers by the side of the police cordon, read: “Rest in peace, Robert.

“We are going to miss you so much. You are my true best friend. We love you always.”

Another card read: “RIP Robert. God only takes the best. Gone far too soon but never will you be forgotten. All our love.”

Meanwhile another resident, who did not want to be identified, said: “It’s upsetting when something like this happens. You just don’t think about these things until it happens somewhere near you.”
