Proposals have been lodged by an curry restaurant and food manufacturing group to build a new food factory, offices and a warehouse in Bradford creating 200 extra jobs.
Mumtaz Food Group has applied to Bradford Council to revive proposals for a site it owns at Greyhound Drive, Legrams Lane, Listerhills, which would involve operating a manufacturing plant on a round-the-clock basis.
Previous plans were approved by the Council in 2008, and the latest scheme has been recommended to be approved by councillors next week.
A report by planners states that it is a “bespoke development that would facilitate the re-location of an existing Bradford-based food manufacturer, the Mumtaz Food Group, to dedicated premises with an anticipated increase in jobs from the current 40 staff to 250.”
It goes on to say that the new buildings would be of a simple layout and two-storey scale that would compliment the traditional and more modern industrial buildings of Legrams Lane. It also includes 109 car parking spaces.
Mumtaz has become one of the country’s best-known Kashmiri restaurants with branches on Great Horton Road and one in Leeds.
The firm has expanded into producing chilled meals, jar sauces, lassi drinks, and baby foods in supermarkets.
It operates 14 Jaldi Jaldi takeaway and delicatessens across Bradford, Leeds, Harrogate and Manchester, after opening its first such store in 2009 at Forster Square Retail Park in Bradford.
Mumtaz was established in 1978 and has grown from a small takeaway in Great Horton Road into a multi-million pound business.
No-one at the company was available for comment about its expansion plan.
Members of Bradford Council’s planning panel for the city are advised to approve the plans when they meet on Thursday, at 9.45am in City Hall, Bradford.
