Bradford Theatre Arts have been staging productions in the city for three decades – but it was a tradition that looked to be under threat when the Little Germany Theatre went into trouble late last year.

The venue, formerly Bradford Playhouse, went into liquidation but, as reported in the T&A, has since been taken over by Be Wonderful Ltd.

The company, which is leasing the historic Chapel Street building, is in talks with heritage and arts organisations to secure funding to buy and refurbish the property.

“We were delighted to know that Rob Walters (who runs Be Wonderful Ltd) was able to offer us our original booking, so our production of Aladdin can now go ahead as planned,” says Stephanie Clements from Bradford Theatre Arts. “We’re delighted to have professional actress Chantelle Marsden heading the cast as Aladdin. Chantelle has also written the fabulously funny script.

“Bart Mekking, cast as Widow Twankey, is from the Netherlands and is studying at the University of Bradford.”

Proceeds from the show – which runs from Thursday, February 16, to Saturday, February 18 – will go to charities including Bradford Catwatch and McMillan Cancer care.
