A Bradford law student faces a showdown with some of the country’s most beautiful women at a national beauty pageant.

Shanika Reid, 21, will be up against more than 50 hopefuls at the Miss England Galaxy competition.

The Bradford-born former Yorkshire Martyrs pupil – who is now in her final year studying law at Huddersfield University – hopes that, if she is successful, she will be jetting off to the US for the international finals.

However Shanika, of Stoneleigh Court, Scholes, said she was keeping her feet firmly on the ground.

“Even if I win, I will definitely carry on with my law,” she said. “It has taken some real hard work and dedication to get this far.”

As Miss Bradford Galaxy, she has taken part in charity work with elderly groups in Bradford, Marie Curie Cancer Care and MacMillan, the British Heart Foundation and the Dogs Trust.

The national finals take place at the Park Hotel in Lancashire on March 4.
