More than 40 members of the public turned out to share their views of public and shared transport in Upper Wharfedale.
The meeting had been organised by the Dales Integrated Transport Alliance (DITA), working closely with the Grassington Hub.
Helen Flynn, chairman of DITA, explained more about the organisation and how the funding it had secured could help communities design sustainable transport solutions. She also revealed how Grassington was one of eight planned DITA “hubs” where local people and visitors would be able to find out more about what local transport was on offer.
Ideas put forward included providing a bus transport link between Grassington and Pateley Bridge that could facilitate onward journeys to Harrogate; providing evening services between Grassington and Skipton; developing a local feeder service for residents of Long Ashes; and setting up a car-share scheme.
Mrs Flynn told the Herald: “We were thrilled to get such a high turnout. Transport is clearly a key issue for many people, especially those who do not have access to a car and are currently cut off at the evenings and on Sunday, such as the elderly and young people. We are looking forward to developing some of these ideas with volunteers at Grassington Hub and North Yorkshire County Council.”
