A Silsden newsagent has been given permission to sell alcohol despite opposition from some residents.
Kirkgate News has been granted a licence for the sale of alcohol from its premises, at 71 Kirkgate, between 8am and 11pm Mondays to Saturdays and from 10am to 10pm on Sundays.
Approval was given on Monday by Bradford Council’s Keighley and Shipley Licensing Panel, despite four letters of objection.
Opponents claimed the licence could lead to a rise in anti-social behaviour and noise nuisance from youths congregating in the area and increased litter.
But, speaking afterwards, business owner Raheel Arshad said several measures, including a strict proof-of-age scheme and CCTV cameras, would be introduced to help prevent any problems.
He added: “We aim to be good citizens and as part of the community we take our responsibilities very seriously. We won’t be beginning to sell alcohol until all the measures are in place.”
