A Bradford schoolboy has travelled to the United Nations’ headquarters in New York on behalf of a charity that provides humanitarian aid to people around the world.

Mohammed Usman, 15, of Great Horton, was chosen by Mother Helpage UK to be its youth representative after the organisation was recognised by the UN’s Department of Public Information.

The Grange Technology College pupil, who has helped with Mother Helpage’s youth development project in Bradford, joined other volunteers and staff members to collect their official passes from the UN.

Mohammed described the trip as “an amazing experience” and thanked the charity’s founder and chief executive, doctor and pilot Sohail Nasti for giving him the opportunity.

He said: “What I have learned in my first UN trip is that a volunteer can be an activist, an idealist, a champion, or simply a friend.

“And anybody in life, of all ages, genders, backgrounds or abilities, can make a difference.”
