A suspected arson attack forced a couple to flee a flat in Braithwaite Avenue, Keighley.

Two fire engines from Keighley and one from Bingley were called out to the incident shortly before 2am on Saturday.

Keighley Fire Station crew commander David Knox said: “A couple were getting themselves out of the flat when we arrived.

“They were okay, but the chap had inhaled some smoke and was given a bit of oxygen by an ambulance crew. It was a small fire and mainly caused smoke damage.”

A police spokesman confirmed the fire was being treated as suspicious.

He said: “We are treating the matter as an arson and inquiries are ongoing by Airedale and North Bradford CID.”
