Recycling containers for electrical goods have been introduced in Otley.
Leeds City Council has installed the recycling facility at Sainsbury’s supermarket in a bid to reduce the amount of kettles, toasters and other small electrical goods ending up in landfill.
The authority has teamed up with Weeelink on the initiative, which it has dubbed Weeebats – standing for Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment incorporating Battery recycling.
The city council's executive member for environmental service, Councillor Mark Dobson, said: “Recycling is the best way to reduce the carbon footprint of Leeds and with initiatives such as these we are able to make it as easy as possible for residents to be able to recycle electronics without hassle.
“One of the biggest stumbling blocks for recycling is the extra work involved for people.”
