A woman being treated for cancer has shaved her head to show solidarity with others undergoing chemotherapy – and to raise thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Alison Burton, 29, of Burnham Avenue, Bierley, was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma, a cancer of the white blood cells, in August last year. Despite undergoing chemotherapy at Bradford Royal Infirmary, she still had much of her own hair so decided to shave it off to raise money for the charity.
She attended Beautilicious Salon on Tong Street, Bradford, with her husband Chris, mum-in-law Gil, sister-in-law Caitlin, and best friend Emily, for the head shave.
She said: “The salon staff were friendly and supportive and offered refreshments to my supporters. The atmosphere was positive and uplifting. The total raised on my JustGiving page now stands at over £4,000 when the GiftAid is included, and I am pleased to say this is still rising.”
