A long-time Wharfedale resident is celebrating her 100th birthday today.
Kathleen Burgess, widow of the Reverend Guthrie Burgess, a Methodist Minister in Cononley, is celebrating the landmark at Anchor’s Townend Close care home in Cross Hills.
She said: ”My grandparents and parents all lived to a good age. I’ve had a wonderful life.”
Mrs Burgess was a shorthand typist as a young woman and when World War Two broke out she joined the WAAF, serving for five years.
Her husband trained to become a Methodist Minister in London, going on to work in Cononley and then retiring to Glusburn.
Townend Close Manager Sharon Mackie said: “Kathleen is a lovely lady who is still very active and loves to join in with activities – she enjoys life to the full.”
