Keighley people will be invited to debate the future of the world over a tipple.
The Green Drinks group will meet monthly at the town’s Central Hall to discuss environmental issues.
The informal talks, over glasses of wine, will bring together both specialists and interested local people.
Issues are expected to include the growing of local food, reforestation and fossil fuel shortages.
The sessions are aimed at revitalising the environmental organisation Transition Keighley. Members are being supported by Shaun O’Hare, from Keighley, and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action.
Transition Keighley brought together local people concerned about threats to the environment, particularly climate change and the increasing difficulties finding fuel.
Members worked closely with public bodies including Keighley Area Committee, and devised schemes to help Keighley cope with transition to a simpler, eco-friendly society.
Mr O’Hare said the number of people involved in Transition Keighley had dwindled in recent months.
But he said: “There are still people involved who are passionate about it. There are people with an incredible amount of knowledge.”
Mr O’Hare said Green Drinks was an international movement that was growing in popularity.
There are already branches in Bradford and Leeds.
He said: “Green Drinks will be very informal – bring a bottle of wine and talk about environmental issues.”
Mr O’Hare had hoped that the regular discussions would lead to spin-off projects organised by small groups of people on a more formal basis.
Anyone interested in getting involved with Green Drinks should contact Mr O'Hare on 01535 665258.
