There are ghostly goings-on at Keighley Playhouse next week.
The Playhouse’s production of Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit is directed by David Hardman, who describes it as a classy play that has been a crowd-pleaser since its premiere more than 70 years ago.
“It still manages to entertain and surprise,” he adds.
As anyone familiar with Coward’s work will know, the play unfolds when novelist Charles Condomin is researching psychics for his next work, and he and his class-conscious wife invite a medium for the evening. Sparks fly when the seance brings back Charles’s first wife, Elvira.
“The England Noel Coward dramatised, with its manicured wit, has long since died. But he constructed a highly-efficient laughter machine,” says David. “Many consider Blithe Spirit to be one of his best and most unusual farces.”
The cast includes David Poole, Barbara Boothroyd, Julia Roberts, Gilly Rogers, David Templeton, Yvonne Templeton and Rebecca Mitchell.
Blithe Spirit runs at Keighley Playhouse from Monday to next Saturday. For tickets, ring 08451 267859.
