A teenager with a lifelong ambition to become a midwife is off to Tanzania later this year to work in a busy maternity hospital.
Ilkley Grammar School student, Leah Hutchinson, 17, from Skipton, has secured a place with specialist medical student placement organisation, Gap Medics, to spend a month in the summer working in a regional hospital in Iringa.
“For as long as I can remember, my ambition was to train to become a midwife,” said Leah. “I want to assist women from all backgrounds to have an enjoyable pregnancy and birth – one of the most, if not the most, memorable moments of your life.”
