Up to 40 Bradford retail workers could be facing at a bleak future following the appointment of administrators at budget clothing chain Peacocks.

The Cardiff-based group operated an outlet within the Morrisons supermarket at Five Lane Ends, which created 45 new jobs when it opened in June 2010.

The company also has a branch at Bradford's Forster Square retail park.

The move by Peacocks has put 9,600 jobs at risk across he UK.

Professional services firm KPMG said it had been appointed administrator to Peacocks, which owns 611 stores and 49 concessions across the UK, as well as its parent company The Peacock Group.

KPMG said all Peacocks stores remained open as it sought to find a buyer for the business and no redundancies had been made.

Meanwhile, KPMG said Wakefield-based Bonmarche, also owned by The Peacock Group, which employs 3,800 staff and operates some 394 stores, has not entered administration and a buyer is being sought for the business.
