This spring’s Saltaire Arts Trail has been granted £10,000 from the National Lottery to support artists and nurture new works.

Since starting five years ago the contemporary art and craft show in the World Heritage village has attracted work from more than 200 artists, offering opportunities to show and sell in 40 venues across the village.

Now, organisers have been given £10,000 to commission new art work for the first time to be shown at the popular event, which starts in May.

Amanda Chinneck, the arts trail’s creative director, said: “For the first time we will be able to commission new art work for the people who visit the event. Providing a platform for contemporary art and resources for artists at the start of their career is what we are about."
