A bridegroom struck down by a brain haemorrhage in Greece just days before his wedding has been discharged from hospital.
John Duffey, of Keighley, collapsed on Christmas Day after suffering a potentially deadly aneurysm. Doctors carried out life-saving surgery on the 28-year-old at a private hospital in Athens after friends and family raised more than £11,000 to pay for treatment.
Mr Duffey had been due to marry Russian bride Elena Sidorova four days after he collapsed and the couple are now to tie the knot at a ceremony on Thursday.
Mr Duffey’s sister Catherine Barker, of Cullingworth, said her brother was due to return to hospital in two weeks for a check-up and would then make a decision on when to return home.
She said: “It’s a major relief. He’s feeling much brighter and is really excited about getting married. My brother and my mum and dad are very grateful to everyone who donated money to help him.”
