A group of sporting schoolchildren could get a golden chance to run 100m at the London Olympic Stadium if they can raise money for charity.
St Mary’s School, in Menston, which is a specialist sports college, is taking part in the 2012km Gold Challenge to raise funds for a sporting charity, Right to Play, providing young people with the chance to play.
And if pupils can raise more than other schools around the country, they could take part in a 100m sprint on the same track that will be graced by the likes of multiple Olympic sprint champion and world record holder Usain Bolt later this year.
St Mary’s pupils will be running 2012km in teams of four during their PE lessons. PE teacher Martin Green said: “We have planned this event along with the team from Gold Challenge to celebrate the start of the Olympic year.”
