A post office which services thousands of people on one of the country’s biggest estates has re-opened following months of campaigning by residents.
Holme Wood Post Office opened in its new home in The Parade, Broadstone Way, yesterday following the public effort which started in March this year.
Canon Gordon Dey, the former vicar of Holme Wood, spearheaded the campaign after the post office was forced to close following the resignation of the temporary sub-postmaster. Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe was on hand to open the new post office yesterday.
Liz Morgan, Post Office field change advisor, said: “Since the branch closed temporarily we have been working hard to restore Post Office services to this area and I am pleased that we have been able to reopen the branch near to its previous location.
“The new sub-postmaster has worked hard to re-establish this service and with the help of the local community, local councillors and Incommunities it has been possible to restore services.”
Social landlord Incommunities has provided the rented premises and worked with the leaseholder to help restore post office services to the area.
Mr Sutcliffe was joined by Anna Fryer, Incommunities director of neighbourhood services covering the Bradford east area, at the opening.
