Motorists are being warned to watch out for ice on Bradford’s roads tomorrow, with temperatures expected to drop in the early hours of the morning.

Wintry showers made for difficult driving conditions in areas including Manchester Road, Great Horton Road, and Mayo Avenue, Bankfoot, during this morning's rush hour with a similar situation expected again tomorrow.

A Met Office spokesman said temperatures were expected to drop to about 2C tomorrow morning and 1C tonight with a chance of sleet and snow.

While heavy and settling snow is not expected in Bradford over the coming days, the spokesman said people should be wary colder temperatures may bring with them white and black ice.

“It’ll feel very cold out there and be quite gusty over night on Tuesday,” he said. The Institute of Advanced Motorists has issued advice on driving in snow and ice as the winter draws in.

Drivers should plan journeys around busier roads in bad weather as they are more likely to have been gritted, according to the organisation.

Motorists are also advised to slow down before reaching bends in roads, and to double or triple their stopping distances from vehicles in front.

IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger said: “Avoid travelling unless completely necessary, and don’t ignore police warnings or advice to not travel on specific routes. Can you work remotely, or change your schedule?”
