A Bradford volunteering project that keeps revellers safe has been such a success it is being rolled out to Wibsey tonight.
Wibsey Street Angels will patrol between 8pm and 11pm around pubs and clubs, making sure revellers are getting home safely.
The Angels, made up of volunteers and members of the Salvation Army, will work closely with the Neighbourhood Policing Team and will hand out anti-spiking devices for use in drinks bottles for pub-goers.
Since Bradford Street Angels started four years ago patrolling central Bradford on Friday and Saturday nights, police have credited the charity with helping cut violent crime by 22 per cent and robberies by 60 per cent. Now it is hoped that success will be replicated in Wibsey.
Matt Dowson, chairman of Bradford Street Angels, said: “We are really encouraged that other parts of Bradford have seen what an impact a group of volunteers can make in a specific location and have made it happen.”
On Wednesday, the Wibsey team joined their counterparts for a training session at Trafalgar House, led by Inspector Kevin Pickles.
Wibsey’s team has six volunteers, but it is hoped that will grow. It is managed separately from the Bradford team and volunteers will initially only patrol on Saturdays.
