For the past five years community DJ Hamaad Shahid has been working to get young people to build self-esteem, gain encouragement and show their talents to a wider audience through his radio programme for Muslim community radio.

His work also opens up discussions around local and national issues of concern, encouraging young people to make informed decisions while generating understanding between different generations.

He has also driven a charity appeal for countries in Africa and Asia, being involved in a series of events which raised more than £10,000 for the appeal.

“I was away on pilgrimage when I was nominated but I want to thank my friends and my family who have helped me out, especially my dad because of him my radio wishes have come true.”
