The National Media Museum has teamed up with other tourist attractions in the region to celebrate ten years of free museum admission.
The Bradford-based museum joins the National Railway Museum in York and the Royal Armouries in Leeds for The Big Free, marking a decade of free admission to national museums. The venues are each pledging: “We’re free and plan to stay that way”.
The Government introduced free admission to national museums in December 2001, as part of a pledge to make the national heritage accessible to all and to boost the UK tourist industry.
The National Media Museum – which opened as the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in 1983 and has become one of the country’s most visited museums outside London – says free admission provides a major boost to visitor numbers.
