The occupants of a flat had a lucky escape after an arsonist shoved burning paper through the letterbox.
Police yesterday branded people who deliberately start fires as “dangerous and reckless.”
And ward councillors vowed to discuss the “worrying” arson attack with police.
Police and the fire service were called to a three-storey block of flats in Rochester Street, Windhill, Shipley, at about 9.20pm on Tuesday following reports of a small fire being deliberately started there.
A fire service spokesman from Shipley said lit paper had been put through the letterbox of a flat on the middle floor.
The spokesman said: “It was not a big fire, but it gave us cause for concern.”
He said the occupants were alerted by the smoke detector and they stamped out the flames.
No damage was caused and nobody was hurt.
