Streets in Keighley are to be repaved in a Victorian style as part of a £2.7 million town centre renovation scheme.

York stone slabs will be placed on North Street, High Street and Church Street during the work next year.

Designs are being drawn up for the revamp, which is being paid for by funds from the Keighley Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI).

The four-year THI programme was launched last year after the Heritage Lottery Fund and Bradford Council agreed funding.

The aim is to restore the heart of Keighley to its Victorian and Edwardian glory, bringing out the “hidden beauty” of the architecture.

Property owners are being offered grants of up to 75 per cent to help pay for repairs and restoration.

Most of the improvements will centre on North Street, with some refurbishment in adjoining Church Street, Bridge Street, High Street and Low Street.

Most of the buildings are shops, with offices or flats above. Work will include re-roofing, restoration of sash windows and re-instating historic shop fronts.
