The frontman of 70s rock ‘n’ roll hitmakers Showaddywaddy has spoken of his decision to end his career singing with the band in Ilkley.
Lead singer Dave Bartram announced his last gig fronting the band will take place on Saturday at a charity concert at King’s Hall.
The singer, who has been with the band for nearly 40 years, will take on the role of manager of a revised version next year.
In a message on Showaddywaddy’s official website, which is run by Bradford superfan Paul Fixter, Mr Bartram said suffering from asthma had contributed to his decision to leave the band.
He said: “I’ve felt the need to move on for a while now and my wellbeing has been hampered by asthmatic problems for some time, which has taken away the pleasure I used to feel when performing.
“Many people think I’m retiring. This is far from the case. I will be continuing in my managerial capacity, handling the affairs of the re-modelled band, who take to the road in January with my blessing.”
Another band member, David Graham, will also leave the band after Saturday’s concert, which is the group’s last live appearance this year, prior to a Greatest Hits tour in 2012.
