A centre for disabled people living in and around Keighley has been awarded £3,300, thanks to the Telegraph & Argus.

The Temple Row Centre, which provides activities and services to physically and mentally handicapped people, received the funds from the charitable arm of the T&A’s parent company, Gannett, to help complete refurbishment work.

The money will be used to provide new dining room furniture for the Temple Diner, which offers a full and snack meal service each day.

The funds will also pay for 40 chairs for the centre’s main hall, used by organisations for public meetings, awards ceremonies and training events.

Paul Anderson, a service co-ordinator at the centre, said refurbishment of the diner started six months ago with volunteers helping to repaint the room and put up new blinds.

He said: “Receiving the funding is brilliant.

“It’s often hard for groups to find that extra bit of money to finish work off, but the grant has allowed us to do that.”

Perry Austin-Clarke, editor of the Telegraph & Argus, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to offer this grant through the Gannett Foundation to a charity that makes such a difference in the area.

“It can be a tough time for charities at the present time, with donations falling as people are tightening their belts, but we are proud of the tremendous work done by groups like the Temple Row Centre.”
