A couple whose home was wrecked when a stolen car crashed into their living room face a £50,000 repair nightmare – less than a week before their wedding day.
Samantha Wells, 45, and her partner Andrew Mann, 49, now face making preparations for their big day from temporary accommodation after the BMW 318 ploughed into their home earlier this month.
The couple, who are due to get married at Bradford Register Office on Saturday, had a lucky escape in the accident on November 19 but it is expected to cost in the region of £50,000 to repair their home in Reevy Road, Buttershaw.
But the pair, who are currently staying in a hotel funded by their insurance company, are doing their best to look on the bright side.
Miss Wells, who is a nurse at Airedale General Hospital, said: “It is not perfect but we are making the best of it and looking forward to the wedding and Andrew’s 50th birthday, which is also on Saturday.
“What else we can we do? There is no point sitting around moping.
“We just have to wait for everyone to complete their assessments of the damage and get on with life.”
Miss Wells said they had begun looking at rental properties and hoped to be out of the hotel and in to a house before Christmas.
They then face spending months in a rented property while extensive repairs are carried out on their property.
She said: “The cost to repair the house is a lot more than we initially expected. It is so expensive because the top of the bedroom wall has shifted and so the roof will need to be replaced.
“The wall will also need to be taken down and built back up. It is a big job and we are going up to the house every day to see what it happening.”
The silver BMW hit Miss Wells’s Volkswagen car before ploughing in to the couple’s house at around 3am on Saturday, November 19.
It smashed through a bay window and came to rest in the living room.
A gaping hole was left in the front of the property and there was a risk the first floor could collapse. Emergency contractors from Bradford Council were called out at 4.30am and spent around eight hours making the building safe
