Bradford is set for a jobs boost after one of the district’s largest employers announced 120 new posts will be created as part of its ambitious expansion plans.

The city’s business and regeneration chiefs have welcomed Yorkshire Building Society’s plans to create much-needed employment at a time when more than 18,000 people are seeking work.

Bosses at the Yorkshire announced yesterday 60 new jobs will be created at its headquarters in Yorkshire Drive, Odsal, Bradford, including 15 staff to process business from internet bank Egg, which it now owns.

There will be another 60 new jobs which Accord Mortgages, the group’s intermediary lending subsidiary, is currently recruiting to fill.

Andy Caton, Yorkshire Building Society’s corporate development director, said the group continued to look ahead to future growth after its merger with Norwich & Peterborough Building Society and acquisition of Egg in the last few weeks.

He said: “It’s a very exciting time for the Society and we feel very positive as we look to the future as a strong and stable business which is offering customers a real alternative to high street banks.

“We value our Yorkshire roots and are pleased to be creating more jobs and supporting the local economy.”

To accommodate its expanding workforce, the society is leasing additional office space close to its Filey Street offices in Bradford city centre. An extra 10,000 sq ft of office space will enable staff from other Yorkshire departments to move from Filey Street.

The Society already employs 1,500 staff at its main offices in Bradford, in Yorkshire Drive and Filey Street.
