Dean Windass admits the boos from opposition fans are music to his ears.
Windass expects another hot reception at Doncaster tonight after being heckled during City's win over Cheltenham. But that's just how he likes it.
The striker was targeted for abuse on Saturday following the fracas which saw opponent John Finnegan sent off. Windass was jeered every time he touched the ball after that - but emerged on top as City claimed their second away victory.
And he won't mind a similarly hostile reaction from the Earth Stadium if it means three more points in the push towards the League One summit.
Windass said: "No doubt I'll get stick again because I always do at Doncaster. But whatever they shout, it never bothers me at all.
"If I'm honest I love it, absolutely love it when the fans start calling me names. It helps me to try even harder and play better.
"And I tell the other lads when the supporters are slagging me off, they're leaving you lot alone'. Let them concentrate on shouting at me and let people like JJ (Jermaine Johnson) get on with causing problems.
"He's so quick and a real threat for teams. I just wish that sometimes he would square the ball to us!"
City's top scorer has netted five goals so far - but is still looking to open his account away from Valley Parade.
In fact it is SEVEN months - ten games - since Windass, who laid on Johnson's winner at Whaddon Road, last scored on the road. That is a score he hopes to settle in south Yorkshire because he is fed up with the ear ache. "It's a little thing that is bothering me and I'm gutted I haven't scored yet," he added. "I wouldn't say it's playing on my mind but I'm starting to get bored with people going on about it.
"As soon as we walked off the pitch on Saturday, I started remembering what the gaffer's been saying and hopefully I can get a goal to put that right tonight.
"I'm getting the goals at home anyway, so it's not a big concern, but it would be nice just to stop everyone mentioning it."
City, currently fourth, are four points adrift of leaders Nottingham Forest and another away win can put the squeeze on second-placed Tranmere, who they face on Saturday.
Windass added: "We needed an away victory and that will just push us on now. We'd been playing well and the confidence is pretty high in the camp, so there's no reason why we can't do it again.
"It's a great position to be in after ten games. We're playing with a lot of character and getting the results to back it up."
