Fifteen jobs have been created at Britain’s first pound shop convenience store which opened in Bradford today – a day ahead of schedule.
The Poundworld Express store in Ivegate sets a new trend for the Wakefield-based single-price retailer which operates more than 125 full-size stores around the UK, including on Kirkgate in Bradford.
Poundworld has seen cash-strapped shoppers flock to its stores and is using the austerity climate to extend its operations into smaller ‘local’ outlets which will be rolled out across the country.
Poundworld is following the likes of supermarket giants Tesco, Sainsbury and Morrisons, which opened its first M-Local store in Ilkley this year, and is the first single-price discount retailer to adopt the smaller trading model.
The new Poundworld Express store in Ivegate will offer more than 1,000 products for £1, including leading brands such as Fairy, Coca Cola and Johnson’s. The range includes cleaning products and toiletries and is set to also include milk and sandwiches.
