They might not have quite filled St George’s Hall to bursting point like they have the Royal Albert before but Show of Hands still got a rousing “aye” from the floor last night.
Widely acknowledged as England’s finest acoustic roots duo Steve Knightly and Phil Beer, along with the stunning vocalist Miranda Sykes, also on the double-bass, came to the heart of Bradford courtesy of SaltaireLive who up-sticked from its usual cosy Victoria Hall home to head for the bright city lights for one night only.
With an act like that, it’s no wonder they have headlined major festivals from Glastonbury to WOMAD - they are a mighty act who surge with great energy.
The material is inspiring, the performance - as only to be expected - was dazzling as ever and went down a storm with their devoted army of followers who didn’t need much encouraging to join in.
Support guest artist American folk singer Richard Shindell was remarkable too, a fine story-singer and hugely talented weaver of musical tales.
