Police were guarding a sealed off Bradford street today following reports of a shooting from a car near a primary school.
Officers were called to Girlington Road, Girlington, at 10.28pm yesterday, and recovered shotgun cartridges following the shooting.
Residents reported hearing the gunshot and some thought it was fireworks until they later saw spent cartridges in the street.
One resident described hearing shots. She leaned out of her attic window to see what had happened. She said: "There were three bangs, louder than fireworks.
"I could see a gang of youths hanging around a shop corner, shouting that someone had 'dropped some shots'.
"People were coming out on to the street to see what was happening."
Local people said they had been troubled with drug dealing in the area and had made numerous reports to police.
A local woman said: "We're used to fighting and drugs on the street but never had gunshots before."
A cordon was put in place across the road near Girlington Primary school and Girlington Community Centre.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said nobody had been injured and enquiries were on-going.
Anyone with information should call the police non-emergency number, 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
