A devastated mum has praised the “phenomenal” support her son has received from around the world after breaking his neck playing rugby.
Susan Cubitt, from Silsden, says her 16-year-old son Nathan still has no feeling in most of his body after he suffered severe neck and spinal injuries during a scrum while playing for Keighley Crusaders Rugby Union Club earlier this month.
So far the teenager’s injury has attracted thousands of messages of support from around the world, including rugby legends Jonny Wilkinson and Martin Johnson.
Mum Susan said the family are coping as best they can.
She said: “He’s not fantastic – but he’s coping with it quite well. He still has no feeling below his armpit area and he’s got no fine motor movement in his arms. It’s been like that since he had the accident.
“He’s got more than 3,200 followers on Twitter and the support he’s been getting from their messages has been phenomenal, it’s really been keeping him smiling."
