A Bradford resident who lost his fight to cancer aged just 32 is being remembered as part of this year’s Christmas Star Appeal.
Andrew Murgatroyd, of Jabez Hall, Manningham, died in July 2010 after a year-long battle with the disease.
He had been a resident at the housing scheme, which supports men with drug and alcohol problems, for three years, staying there until the last week of his life.
Staff at Ripple Accommodation Services, which set up the hall, are now dedicating a star to be hung on the City Hall Christmas tree in his memory in recognition of his courageous battle.
David Heaps, programme facilitator for Ripple, said: “He was only 31 when he was told of his illness, although it was a massive shock to him, it never changed his personality.
“During the time that staff supported him through his illness, he helped their spirits up with his dry sense of humour and if you were at the receiving end of his sharp wit, you certainly knew about it."
