Business leaders have warned Bingley faces falling behind other areas unless its town centre manager is replaced.

The town has been without a town centre manager since the previous post holder, David Dinsey, retired in May.

Bradford Council said at the time it would make a decision on filling the post in October. However, council chiefs say they are not currently recruiting for the role.

Jamie Illingworth, president of Bingley Chamber of Trade, blasted the decision. He said: “The role is vital and will make a big difference to the vibrancy of the town.

“A town centre manager can apply for funding to improve the appearance of the town, organise promotions and be a link between business and the Council so they can access the support that is available.

“We are the only town in Bradford without a town centre manager and the sooner we get one the better.”

Rob Harrison, who runs Liberties and Co, said: “We are definitely falling behind. We call ourselves the Cinderella of Bradford district.

“Bingley is a small town and businesses really work together. If there was somebody at the helm of that who is interested and a good communicator we could really do great things.”

A council spokesman said: “We are not currently recruiting for a Bingley town centre manager.

“The post is still there and included in the restructure process we are going through, but we are not recruiting at present.”
