Campaigners fighting proposals for a wind farm on Thornton Moor have raised concerns about plans by two farmers to install turbines in nearby Calderdale.
Planning applications have been submitted to Calderdale Council for a 30m high turbine at Cock Hill, Keighley Road, Illingworth, near to Halifax Road, and a 34.5m turbine at Upper Soil Hill Farm in Ned Hill Road, Bradshaw.
While the application for the Upper Soil Hill Farm turbine states it would have a limited visual impact on the surrounding countryside, the site for the proposed Cock Hill development would be ‘visible on the skyline’, depending on where it is viewed from.
Anthea Orchard, of Denholme Gate, who formed Thornton Moor Wind Farm Action Group last year to fight proposals by Banks Renewables for up to four turbines on Thornton Moor, said the planned turbines would blight the green belt.
