Two men have been locked up while they await sentence after they were convicted of intentionally wounding a prostitute’s partner by beating him with a dog chain in Bradford city centre.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told Aaroon Yaqoob, 21, and Mohammed Hussain, 23, they would be remanded in custody until sentencing because they had been convicted of an offence for which a custodial sentence was inevitable.

Yaqoob, of Ring Road, West Park, Leeds, and Hussain, of Hessle Mount, Hyde Park, Leeds, were found guilty, at Bradford Crown Court yesterday, of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Yaqoob was cleared of one allegation of rape. The jury of nine men and three women could not agree, after more than seven hours of deliberation, on a second charge of rape, and was discharged.

Hussain was found not guilty of aiding and abetting the alleged rapes. Both had denied all charges.

Sonia Keach, 35, of Salt Street, Manningham, Bradford, denied aiding and abetting the alleged rapes and wounding, and was found not guilty.

The prosecution alleged the 23-year-old prostitute was raped outside Ruby House, Dyson Street, in Bradford city centre, in the early hours of December 12 last year, after she had consensual sex with Yaqoob.

Her partner, who had been there to protect her, was attacked with a dog chain, the court had heard. He suffered three head wounds and bruising.

Keach, her daughter, Gemma Keach, 20, of Dock Lane, Shipley, and Abdul Basit, 34, of Lily Street, Manningham, Bradford, were all found not guilty of separate charges of false imprisonment and intimidation, which they had denied. Judge Durham Hall said he could not sentence Yaqoob and Hussain for wounding with intent until it was known whether the prosecution were to seek a retrial on the outstanding rape charge. He adjourned the case until next Friday.
