One of the region’s most historic churches is launching a £700,000 refurbishment bid to bring it into the 21st century.
The Victorian pews at All Saints Parish Church in Ilkley could be replaced by moveable chairs and an extension linking it to nearby Church House built.
Those behind the redevelopment scheme, which could cost up to £750,000, hope to have it completed by next Christmas and planning applications could be submitted to Bradford Council within weeks.
Parts of central grade II listed landmark, overlooking Church Street and New Brook Street, date back to the medieval era, and it is built on the historic Roman fort site, a designated Ancient Monument.
A statement from the church said: “After 11 years of analysing options, reviews of future space requirements and upgrades to meet the standards of modern building regulations and consultations with planning officers, English Heritage and Diocesan advisors, the detailed plans have now been finalised.
