A fire service probe was under way last night into the cause of a major house blaze which forced a Bradford family to flee for their lives.

Two family members were being treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary yesterday for the effects of inhaling smoke after they repeatedly tried to re-enter the terraced house mistakenly believing there a relative was in the front room.

Emergency services were called to Waverley Road, Lidget Green, shortly before midnight on Monday after neighbours raised the alarm.

Munir Bashir, 22, said he was out at the time but rushed back when he learned of the blaze.

Mr Bashir, who lives with his wife, mother, grandmother, an older brother and his wife and their two children, and a younger brother, said his family had managed to get out when he arrived at the scene but wrongly believed his younger brother was still inside.
