A waste management company has come to the rescue of a 20-year-old project which provides low-cost furniture for vulnerable people.
Organisers of Windhill Community Furniture Project, which has its store in Crag Road, Shipley, feared repeated thefts of parts from their delivery van could spell disaster for the long-running scheme.
Now, after an appeal in the Telegraph & Argus for financial support, Advanced Waste Management (AWM), which has a depot in Canal Road, has agreed to help.
Bosses at the company have donated £1,000 and will help with deliveries.
They have also agreed to pass on any re-useable furniture collected at its depot.
Operations director Ian Bissett said: “AWM were approached for help after a series of thefts from the project service vehicle which had threatened the very existence of the project which has been helping local people for over 20 years due to lack of funds.
“The company were only too happy to help such a wonderful local community service with a donation which will now hopefully enable the project to continue carrying out the good work.”
Furniture store manager Lesley Young, said: “It is really good of AWM to offer us support when we have not been getting it from anywhere else."
