One of the world’s most famous fish and chip shops has been snubbed in a new guide outlining the county’s best chippies.
Harry Ramsden’s landmark restaurant in Guiseley has not been featured in Welcome To Yorkshire’s latest campaign featuring the best fish and chips shops in the county, because it has become a national brand.
The chain started in Guiseley in 1928, and now has 35 branches across the UK, Ireland and across the globe.
Clive Woods, from the Aireborough Civic Society, said it was a shame the restaurant at White Cross, was not involved given its significance.
“From a historical point of view, it’s very important and it should really be included,” he said.
But the organisers of the Fish and Chip trail, which features 32 chippies, said although they are fans of Harry Ramsden’s, it is not right for their campaign.
A spokesman for Welcome To Yorkshire said it recognised Harry Ramsden’s great contribution to fish and chips, but had decided to focus the trail on more locally-based Yorkshire fish and chip eateries rather than national brands.
A spokesman for Harry’s Ramsden’s was unavailable for comment.
