A campaigning mum who raised a successful petition to lobby for a new playground has been forced to start another petition – this time to save it.

Sarah Firth, who lives two streets away from Claremont Park in Wrose, Shipley, has just started an online petition to oppose another petition by residents who complain the park’s popularity is making their lives a misery.

Unhappy residents have met police and councillors in an attempt to hammer out their differences but people living close to the park are adamant they still want the park’s zip wire and bucket swings removing.

They have handed in a 190-name petition which will go before Shipley Area Committee for consideration.

One effort to ease their problems was a suggestion by ward councillor Vanda Greenwood (Lab, Windhill and Wrose) to introduce a 10pm curfew after reports of anti-social behaviour were adding to neighbours’ woes.

However, police reported there had been no anti-social behaviour issues at the park for the past two months.

Council officials have also been working on other ideas to ease the problems, such as screening with greenery and doing a noise pollution test.

Plans for the second stage of developing the park have now been put on hold, much to Mrs Firth and other park users’ dismay.
