A jilted boyfriend who attacked an innocent man he caught having sex with his former girlfriend has been locked up for more than four years.

Daniel Brown, 20, even threatened to cut off his victim’s penis after finding him in bed with Danielle Heaton, Bradford Crown Court was told yesterday.

Judge Peter Benson handed Brown a four-and-a-half-year youth custody sentence for the attack.

Danielle’s brother Ryan Heaton, 22, who took part in the joint attack on Alex Trevors, was given a four-and-a-half-year jail sentence.

Judge Benson told the pair: “This was a nasty, prolonged, vicious attack on a helpless victim – naked and defenceless.

“You were both responsible for that dreadful assault on that young man, who was a stranger to you both and couldn’t be said, in any way, to have brought this attack upon himself.”

Judge Benson said it had been Brown’s “mission to wreak revenge on this person, who had no reason to know of his existence.”

Brown, of Regent Avenue, Skipton, and Heaton, of Greatwood Avenue, Skipton, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Brown also admitted causing actual bodily harm to Miss Heaton, by punching her once to the head.

Prosecutor Geraldine Kelly said Brown and Miss Heaton had been in a relationship for five years, but she ended it on the morning of Saturday, April 2 this year, and he packed his belongings and left her flat, in Simbach Close, Skipton.

She went into Skipton that evening, where she met Mr Trevors, a goalkeeper for Cowling football club’s second team.

Miss Kelly said they went to Strata night club, where she kissed Mr Trevors and suggested they went back to her flat.

The pair were lying on the bed, with Mr Trevors naked, when Brown kicked in the downstairs door and entered the bedroom.

He began punching Mr Trevors, and Ryan Heaton joined in the assault.

Miss Kelly said the victim fell to the floor and was punched and kicked every time he tried to get up.

She said the pair carried out a sustained and repeated assault and Heaton had either stamped or kicked Mr Trevors when he was already bleeding from injuries.

He was treated at hospital for multiple lacerations to his face and body, including 16 stitches for wounds to his back.

Judge Benson stressed Mr Trevors had not deliberately cuckolded Brown, and was enjoying a consensual relationship with no knowledge of the other circumstances.

Heaton was given a further six months’ imprisonment, and was disqualified for three years, after admitting dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and no insurance.

After the case, Detective Constable Steve Menzies, of Skipton CID, said: “I am satisfied with the sentences. The fact that Brown and Heaton had broken into the flat to attack the victims was obviously an aggravating element.

“Alex Trevors was in a very vulnerable position. He offered no violence or provocation and was suddenly confronted by two men intent on causing him serious injury.

“He was unable to escape and because of the speed and viciousness of the attack, he could not defend himself.

“There is little doubt that the assault was fuelled by alcohol and emotions, but there is no excuse for the actions taken by Brown and Heaton.

“Given that at one stage Brown had a knife in his hand we could have been investigating a case even more serious than the one they were sentenced for.”
