More than half the workers at an award-winning Bradford steel firm have been made redundant after a slump in construction work forced bosses to call in administrators.
Barrett Steel Buildings Limited, which carried out a £4 million contract to supply and build the steel frame for the huge multi-million pound Marks & Spencer distribution centre at the Pro Logis site on Rooley Lane, has been hit by a “significant” drop in orders Mark Firmin and Howard Smith, of KPMG’s Yorkshire Restructuring practice, were appointed joint administrators yesterday.
They confirmed that 23 of the 40 employees had been made redundant and the site mothballed. Meanwhile, they are looking for a buyer and are “considering options” for existing contracts.
