Arsonists are believed to be responsible for a fire at a building used as a sports pavilion and changing rooms.
Fairweather Green firefighters were called to the building in Scotchman Road, Heaton, at 9.43pm yesterday following reports of a fire.
Watch commander Ronnie Goldwater, of Fairweather Green fire station, said the fire was believed to have been caused deliberately.
He said: “It looks like someone has set fire to the doors and it’s spread to the roof.
“It has burned the doors away and it’s got into the roof void and smoke damaged the whole building.”
Crews were at the scene of the fire for about two hours.
