Youngsters in Bradford got the chance to view a new multi-million pound youth centre in the city for the first time over the weekend.
The £7.88m Culture Fusion project, in a converted mill in Thornton Road, held an open day on Saturday to give people the chance of a sneak preview for what will be on offer when it fully opens next month.
A parade of young people was led at noon from Centenary Square to the centre, where a range of activities were on offer.
The centre is the result of a project led by the City of Bradford YMCA with Bradford Council and other organisations.
Paul Colley. head of business and international development at Bradford YMCA, said the centre, built mainly through Government funding, featured a diverse range of state-of-the-art activities, from a recording suite and event space to a climbing wall and a gym.
He said: “Basically through the day it is a one-stop information shop for young people, all the information services have got representation here and then in the evening it’s a place for young people to come.”
Mr Colley said the centre will be fully open on November 24.
Annisha Dev, 16, of Manningham, was among a group of young people consulted on the project.
She said: “It’s amazing – all that effort and hard work put in, it really has paid off, it’s really good just seeing it now.”
Issaq Mohammed, 20, an apprentice youth worker at Bradford YMCA, said: “It’s very impressive.”
