A campaign has started to give a disabled schoolboy a very special Christmas present – the chance of riding his own bike.
Baildon schoolboy Emmerson Stead, five, who has Down’s syndrome, was also born with Perthes disease, a condition that affects one in every thousand children.
It means he cannot walk and has to be taken in a buggy to play in the park with friends.
Now an online fundraising campaign has stared to raise the £1,500 needed to buy a specially-adapted tricycle in time for Christmas.
Mum Liza Stead, 40, said: “This will give him the same quality of life as his friends.
“He is at mainstream school and this will give him the chance to join in with what his friends are doing.”
Mrs Stead and Emmerson’s dad Jamie, 38, initially approached charities to fund the cost of the Colt tricycle, which has fixed wheels to help him pedal.
However, none of the charities could provide funding in time for Christmas, so the family decided to raise the money themselves.
