Part of a main route into Bradford will be closed for most of the weekend to allow the demolition of a footbridge to take place.
The bridge on Manchester Road is being knocked down to make way for a new bridge, suitable for both walkers and cyclists, paid for by Lottery funding.
National charity Sustrans was awarded £50 million by the Big Lottery Fund to provide new routes for everyday walking and cycling journeys across the country.
The scheme to replace the bridge at Manchester Road, near Newby Primary School, is part of that project.
Work starts early tomorrow by contractors working on behalf of Bradford Council so part of Manchester Road will be closed from 5am until late on Sunday.
It will re-open early on Monday.
The road will be closed between its junction with St Stephen's Road and the Ripley Street junction. Motorists are advised to avoid Manchester Road altogether and follow the diversions on the ring roads unless access is required to businesses and homes.
One diversion will take them down Bowling Old Lane and St Stephen’s Road where buses will also be diverted.
